Brandt was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. She immigrated from Cape Town to Auckland New Zealand with her family when she was in her teens. Brandt was discovered by casting directors in her native town, and she was offered the part as Naevia for the Starz hit Spartacus Blood and Sand and Spartacus Gods of the Arena. Due to her collaboration together with Steven S. D Knight's and Sam Raimi's producers, she was a breakout movie star.
